Your Cadillac is designed and built to deliver superior performance, but even Cadillac components will need to be replaced one day. As your Cadillac dealership, we want to give you some examples of performance care services we provide to keep your vehicle in great shape.
Spark Plug Replacement
A spark plug is attached to each engine cylinder, and its job is to ignite the cylinder’s contents to produce combustion. Precise timing is essential, as the compressed fuel-air mixture in a cylinder must generate a regularly spaced series of mini explosions. The plugs are consumable components, as they slowly wear out as they perform and eventually need replacement.
Old plugs will cause the fuel-air mixture to burn poorly, wasting fuel and eventually causing misfiring or stalling. Engine performance will suffer as poor combustion reduces engine power, and continued misfiring will eventually damage the cylinders, pistons, and other engine components. Our technicians can examine your plugs while you wait and replace any that are damaged within minutes.
Oil Replacement
Your engine depends on the continued circulation of high-quality oil. Oil lubricates numerous engine components, protecting them from friction damage and allowing them to work faster and more efficiently. The oil’s movement helps to cool the engine, and specialized oil additives break down potentially damaging engine build-ups that can cause blockages, protect countless parts against rust, and maintain good fuel efficiency.
As time passes, even the best quality oil will thicken and slow down due to the accumulation of dirt and other debris collected inside the engine. When this happens, engine performance will drop, the reduced lubrication increases wear and tear on engine components, and the engine works harder than necessary, which decreases fuel efficiency.
Coolant Replacement
Coolant is highly pressurized, and it moves quickly through the engine to absorb heat and transport it to the radiator for removal. Your engine works most efficiently at temperatures between 185°F and 230°F, but excessive temperatures beyond these levels will cause damage to vulnerable engine components like gaskets and seals.
Like oil, coolant also absorbs debris as it circulates through the engine. This reduces its speed, and your engine temperature will automatically rise as more heat is retained. The temperature gauge will show a steady rise, and the check engine light will illuminate to warn of danger. Older coolant can also become corrosive, causing additional damage. We’ll drain the old coolant, flush the cooling system, and refill it with fresh coolant.
Regular maintenance not only ensures top performance but also prevents many avoidable repairs. If you’d like to learn more about our services or book maintenance, contact our service department at Alexander Cadillac in Oxnard, CA.
